Licensure for Out-of-Country Preparation

 

If you have completed preparation in any other country other than the United States or Canada that has qualified you to be a teacher in that country, the licensure process you will need to follow will be found on this page.

 

Step 1. Evaluation:

The evaluation will require you to submit your transcripts and the evaluation of those transcripts by a foreign transcripts evaluation service approved by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners. Those approved agencies are:

Once you receive the evaluation from the transcript evaluation service, you may begin the first stage of the application process. Click on the link below and begin to build your application. You will need a Social Security Number. If you do not have one, please contact our office (http://www.boee.iowa.gov/contacts.html) for a temporary number that will allow you to start this process.
The application will require you to upload a copy of the evaluation of your transcripts provided by the approved transcript evaluation service. An evaluation fee of $60.00 will be required for the Board of Educational examiners to complete this portion of the application process. You pay within the application with a credit card. An additional $3.00 convenience fee will be charged for this credit card service. Please go to the following link to begin this process.

Evaluation application

Once the evaluation is complete you will be issued a letter outlining the next stage. This will include the possible license, teaching endorsement areas, deficient coursework, and necessary Praxis II assessment required for Iowa licensure.

Step 2. Processing and issuance:

Once you have completed the Praxis II assessment, you may now begin the application process to be issued an Iowa license. The application will require you to upload the Praxis II test Score and document any teaching experience you have obtained. Within the application you will be able to request a fingerprint pack for you to complete the state and federal background check requirements for Iowa licensure. There will be a $75.00 background check fee as well as a $85.00 processing fee. You pay within the application with a credit card.
