Apply For a New or Additional Teaching License
Candidates obtain teacher licensure in Iowa through the completion of a teacher preparation program (Bachelor’s or Master’s degree) or through our Teacher Intern Program. Teacher preparation programs include coursework in the professional education core, content subject(s), and a student teaching or internship placement. Programs must be completed through regionally accredited institutions for college credit. A list of Iowa institutions can be found here. Information about the teacher intern program can be found here.
Preparation programs may be completed out-of-state through regionally accredited institutions. It is up to candidates to ensure that their coursework aligns with Iowa’s requirements. These candidates will need to obtain a teaching license from the state in which the institution is located. The Ashford University online program is not approved for teacher licensure.
